Tips on Recording
« on: 05:24:46 PM 01/31/16 »
I'll be honest, I have been saying I'm going to record each week, and then I get super scared and chicken out. Does anyone have tips on how to not chicken out and try to go with the flow of the game and keep on talking?

Like when I'm talking in the skype chat, I feel calm and collected and able to talk with you all. But when I am trying to get a solo video recorded, I seem to lock up on talking and lose my train of thought.

Anything will be helpful at this point XD I am just tired of saying Im going to do it and I just wimp out.

I had the problem of wimping out at first too. It took me so many videos before I was able to actually record properly. I'm not sure what finally clicked. I honestly think that my frustration won out over my wimpiness but I know I'm still kind of struggling with that. What I do now is to focus so much on the game and try to speak as much of what I'm thinking (which is mostly lame jokes) that I forget I'm actually recording myself.

But what works for me might not work for anyone else. I do completely suggest recording as many videos as possible with no intent to upload until you get used to recording yourself.

But also, I have an irrational fear of my relatives coming in and talking through a video. I know people like Torm and ChilledChaos have there pets interrupt, but they are more well known and can pass it off as a little quirk or gimmick if it happens a lot.

But if it were to happen to me, it would seem entirely unpreffesional.

Its a small fear though.

Yeah I think it's a legitimate fear though but you can always edit that out.

Yea, just edit interruptions out, I put a sign on the door saying recording so that prevented that from happening. For solo recording I just say "fuck it' and record and whatever happens, happens.

I don't record gaming clips very often and I'm just starting out myself. So everything I know about youtube could be completely false but this has been my personal experience. For a creepypasta channel like mine, its literally me talking into a mic with images added in post or me reading a creepy story in the dark or me talking into a black screen. Therefore, I probably have a different experience from a gamer's channel, like Parm's for example.

So I'm going to be completely honest with you Boom, you are your own biggest critic. There is no way in hell that anyone else is going to judge your first video as harshly as you judge it. Its a fact when you start out. Editing audio is the worst because I have to listen to my stupid voice that has more problems in it then anyone else can possibly pick up on. Am I proud of the vids, sure. But that pride only comes from how other people receive my stuff. I've already accepted that I will always judge my videos more harshly than anyone else possibly could and that's the kind of attitude you need to have. I'm not saying I'm great or even good or even adequate at what I do, but know that no one else could possibly hate my stuff more than me.

Now, as a gaming channel, you could go down the Parmajon route and record some videos with friends. You don't have to talk as much if there are other people present. For me, I can name hundreds of problems with the Scare Your Friends podcast that most people don't pick up on because ... they are not there in the recording area. However, the podcast is by far the easiest for me to record/edit. With my friends present, the conversations feel more organic - even if we are cracking dick jokes and shouting insults at each other - it still feels better.

I barely even watch/listen to my own videos. That's not me being negative, its me being practical. You have to move on from a video you release on youtube, good or bad, and move onto the next project/video or whatever your doing next. Making new stuff is the only way to improve and you can't sit on a video because you don't find it flawless. Just make whatever your making, record it, post it, and see where you can improve. Then move on.

Yeah I mainly think I would do collab work. It seems much easier and could help me ease into the whole thing.

Yeah, if only there was a group of individuals you could work with who make/ aspire to make content on the internet. Too bad though.  :-\

Skill gave some fantastic advice. Collab work is easier but more work.

I barely even watch/listen to my own videos.

I barely watch my own stuff as well.

Well I want to find out what games everyone has. Its hard to get a game a lot of people have in the skype chat.

Everyone has access to CAH, Would You Rather, and those drawing games that all the other big channels do. There's also TOS.
